American Civil Liberties Union will file a lawsuit on 20th of September against US Immigration and Customs Enforcement due to a matter of family separation. The lawsuit will be in San Diego at a federal court.
Due to permission granted by the President of the United States, children can be taken away and distanced from their parents if they are posing a danger to the children. But this has created a problem since there are at least 950 examples of such cases and some of them are not justifiable. ACLU believes family separation like this is arguable and that is the reason for the lawsuit being filed. For instance, a diseased father is prohibited from being near his children and this is fair neither to the parent and nor to the children.
Soto LaVeaga is a science historian and she believes that the contagious diseases are the reason diseased people should be quarantined. And this matter is connected with politics and associated with ethics too. The matter of the HIV patient being taken away from his children also backed her up.
When interrogated about the perception and treatment of the immigrants, Soto LaVeaga assured that the health of them was their utmost priority and the hygienic conditions are taken care of for any foreign body entering the country’s premises, for example, they were put under checking in the detention centres. This decreased and eliminated any danger or harm to the people and the prevalence of any disease.
The role of race in this matter can be rather questionable. There has always been this belief that the new immigrants pose danger as they can allow a disease to spread around. Like it happened back in the 1980s when Haitian people brought in HIV/AIDS to the United States and they were restricted from entering the country.
The conversation between the two ended on the conclusion that specific diseases are associated with a specific group of people and people had shown cooperation in this matter.
