Sugar is definitely not the best mineral for humans to intake in large amounts. It is commonly known that sugary drinks contains a lot of sugar. This sugar is not healthy and is the lead cause for many different diseases including diabetes. Most of these diseases are considered fatal at extreme conditions.
A recent study observed the effects of sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) and artificially sweetened beverages (ASBs). It has been noted from the study that SSBs that are consumed by people at high rates will increase the risk of premature death significantly. This death is more likely to be caused from cardiovascular disease obtained from high sugar intakes, which affects the blood glucose level, blood pressure and in turn the heart. However, the risk of dying from cancer will decrease. These results were obtained from a sample of both men and women. However, the results show that women are more viable to being affects by high sugar levels compared to men.
On the other hand, for low consumptions of ASBs (one per day), the risk for premature death, caused from cardiovascular diseases, will actually decrease. However, high consumption of ASBs, will affect the mortality levels in females.
This study was conducted on a huge timespan, using large numbers of men and women. It was conducted by the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and the results were lately published in the Circulation Journal. The study was led by Dr. Vasanti Malik, who is research scientist in the Department of Nutrition.
